HOW TO CLEAN YOUR MICROWAVE AND ELIMINATE BAD ODOURS

Photo of a person cleaning a microwave

The microwave is a must-have kitchen appliance. When used daily, it can quickly become dirty. Over time, left-behind food residue can harden and give off a bad smell. Do you want a sparkling clean microwave that always smells fresh? At Ateliers G. Paquette, we specialize in appliance repairs and parts sales in Quebec. Keep reading to discover our microwave cleaning tips and check out our blog for more insider info.

Getting started

Before starting, unplug the microwave and ensure it has cooled down completely. Leave the door open throughout the process to prevent an accident.

Cleaning products

Avoid using abrasive products or those that contain chlorine to avoid damaging your microwave. All you need is warm water, mild soap and a few cloths. If the exterior of your appliance is stainless steel, use a specialized cleaner to restore its shine. However, don’t use it on the control buttons, labels or interior.

Inside the appliance

All you need is a damp cloth to remove surface grime. Once you’ve wiped down the inside, use a fresh cloth to dry it. Do the same on the outside. If needed, heat one to two cups of water on high until it comes to a boil. The steam will loosen up any caked-on food gunk.

Accessories

Remove the turntable and roller ring from the microwave and wash them in hot soapy water in the kitchen sink. Let dry completely before returning them.

Bad smells

You can eliminate unpleasant odours by running your appliance on high power for a few minutes with a cup of lemon water in the centre.
